LINCOLN, Neb. — Students and supporters of Palestine gathered on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s campus to protest the war in the Middle East.

A local pro-Palestine group “Lincoln for Palestine” and the UNL affiliated group Students for Justice in Palestine began the demonstration at 9 a.m.

NCN talked with an event organizer who said the protest was a “peaceful demonstration” and will last until 7 p.m.

She told NCN there are four demands the organization is looking for:

  1. UNL to end the study abroad program which has trips planned to Israel
  2. The university to disclose all investments that fund Israel
  3. Divest all investments that fund Israel
  4. Stop receiving all grants and money from Israel

The organizer also said the intention was not to occupy buildings or use physical force that has been seen on some campuses across the country.

Conversations between university officials, campus security, law enforcement and demonstrators have been productive according to the organizer.
