Table of Grace Food Pantry moves to bigger location
SIDNEY -- Friday morning, February 20, the Table of Grace on Alvarado Road was busy with volunteers.
They were moving pallets, freezer units and dry goods from the Food Pantry.
The Table of Grace Food Pantry is moving closer to the center of Sidney, to 1114 Toledo. Much of the work was done Friday, but with any moving project there is fine-tuning.
The Table of Grace is managed by Sherri and Lee Eads.
"We took over in 2017. The board was with the Holy Trinity Church. So then we took it over, and now its with the Church of the Nazarene. Its just grown leaps and bounds since 2017," said Sherri Eads.
With the growth comes the need for facilities capable of serving the need. That is where the decision was made divide and serve. The thrift store will remain at the Alvarado address, and the food pantry will relocate to a larger facility at 1114 Toledo. Eads said the hope is people will be able to move through the facility quicker with more space.
"Hopefully, it won't take people as long to get through because it won't be as compact an area. It will be more wide open an area. I believe we can just move people through faster," she said.
Much of the thrift store and food pantry operates on volunteers. Workers from Adams/Simplot helped in the move to the new location. Volunteers are also sought for the daily operations. Roger Abrams is one of the volunteers.
"I started volunteering because I heard they needed help. I started that and been doing it ever since. I enjoy doing it because its really helping the people out that need help. Its rewarding in its own way just to know you're helping all these people out," Abrams said.
He said he has been volunteering at Table of Grace about six months.
Raenae Curry, an employee at the Table of Grace Thrift Store, said she enjoys the environment.
"It's rewarding. It's family and friends. I enjoy working here," she said.
Table of Grace has mobile food pantries where food is distributed to families in other communities, and The King's Inn has transitional housing.
