Radio host arrested after tire ‘slashings’ rock Sidney
SIDNEY, Neb. – A wave of vehicle vandalism swept through Sidney Tuesday morning, leading to the arrest of local radio personality Hunter Arterburn, who was taken into custody by Cheyenne County Sheriff Adam Frerichs just before noon.
According to authorities, more than 35 vehicles across Sidney were targeted in what was described as a “deliberate and coordinated tire-slashing spree.” Residents reported leaving work to find their tires defaced, with each incident sharing one bizarre similarity: a photo of legendary Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash taped to their driver's side front tire.
“We were initially puzzled,” Frerichs said. “We had reports coming in from all over town. Same M.O. every time — Slash’s face on a tire. We knew we had a serial slasher on our hands.”
Eyewitnesses near Glover Road reported seeing Arterburn “lurking with a roll of tape, sunglasses and what appeared to be a copy of Appetite for Destruction.”
Arterburn, host of the morning show on 987 The Big Boy, was apprehended without incident in Hickory Street Square and led away in handcuffs outside the radio station. When asked for comment during his arrest, he simply shouted, “Welcome to the jungle, baby!”
As it turns out, Sidney wasn’t under siege after all.
It was all part of an elaborate April Fools’ Day prank coordinated by The Big Boy. No actual tires were harmed in the making of the video — only a town’s trust in its morning show host.
“I can confirm all tires are intact,” Frerichs said with a grin. “Though we may need to press charges for excessive dad jokes and public mischief.”
Photos and videos of the “Slashings” quickly went viral on social media Monday, with dozens of Sidney residents posing with their newly “rocked out” tires.
Arterburn has since been released on his own recognizance. We hope you had the best April Fools' Day ever!
