GOTHENBURG, Neb. - Five juveniles who were reported missing from a juvenile facility in Wyoming were arrested early Sunday morning after leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase through central Nebraska, according to the Nebraska State Patrol.

Authorities say they were first alerted that the teens were traveling east through Nebraska in a stolen vehicle. Investigators later learned the group had allegedly stolen a second vehicle in North Platte — a Dodge Durango and a Chevrolet Tahoe — and were traveling in both.

Around 4:15 a.m., a state trooper spotted the vehicles speeding east on Interstate 80 near Gothenburg, both allegedly topping 100 miles per hour. When the trooper attempted a traffic stop, NSP says the vehicles exited I-80 at the Cozad interchange and fled south on Highway 21 — at times driving in the wrong lane.

Near the intersection of Highways 21 and 23, the Durango veered off the road and landed in a ditch. According to NSP, the two occupants fled on foot into a nearby field. The Tahoe continued south for a few more miles before stopping; its three occupants also allegedly fled on foot.

Troopers, along with deputies from Dawson, Frontier, and Gosper County Sheriff’s Offices, launched a search that lasted several hours. All five juveniles — ranging in age from 14 to 17 — were eventually located and taken into custody. They have since been turned over to probation officials.
