Sidney police investigating shots fired incident in north Sidney
SIDNEY —The Sidney Police Department is investigating a shots fired incident in the area of East Drive in north Sidney late Saturday night.
Sidney Police Chief Sam Lovato says authorities were dispatched to Sky Manor around 10:30 p.m. on May 3 after receiving a report of gunfire near a residence. When officers arrived, they heard loud voices coming from a backyard gathering, but no one at the scene was willing to cooperate with investigators.
Officers recovered twelve 9mm shell casings from the street outside the residence. No injuries, property damage, broken glass or blood were observed.
A witness told police they saw a small black car in the area during the time of the shooting and reported hearing a burst of gunfire before the vehicle sped away.
Investigators are working to develop leads by examining prior related incidents, interviewing witnesses and seeking out potential surveillance footage. The shell casings recovered will be analyzed as part of the ongoing investigation.
The department has increased its presence in the area and is urging the public to remain alert and report any suspicious activity. Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact the Sidney Police Department at 308-254-5515.
Further updates will be released as new information becomes available.
Late last week, Sidney Police responded to an unrelated shots fired call. However, Lovato told News Channel Nebraska there was no gunfire in that case.
