Work to begin on N-71, Scottsbluff area bridges

GERING, Ne. -- Weather permitting, work will begin July 21 on multiple bridges along Nebraska Highway 71 (N-71) in the Scottsbluff area.
The announcement was made July 11 by the Nebraska Department of Transportation.
Bridges include:
- flyover bridge into Gering
- both bridges over 21st Ave
- both bridges over Nebraska Highway 92 (N-92)
- both bridges over the North Platte River
- both bridges by the Scottsbluff sugar factory
M.E. Collins Contracting Co. is the prime contractor. Work includes bridge deck and approach repair, deck surface treatment, pavement repair and concrete slope protection repair.
The flyover bridge into Gering will be closed to allow for repairs to be made and the traffic will be detoured to Robidoux Road and back to Five Rocks Road. The on-ramp to N-71 northbound from N-92 will be closed to allow for repairs and the traffic will be detoured to Melbeta, north on N-79E to N-26 and west to N-71.
All other traffic will be controlled by lane closures and concrete barrier walls.
Anticipated completion is 50 working days from July 21.
Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and near work zones, to buckle up, and put phones down.
