Conestoga Holds On Against Falls City for First Win of the Football Season

CONESTOGA, NE - The Cougars of Conestoga held on for a narrow win over the Falls City Tigers on Friday night, 24-19, as heard on B103.
The hosts built a 10-0 lead by halftime, getting a short fieldgoal in the opening quarter & a short touchdown pass from Noah Eagen to Grant Tesarek with just seconds remaining in the second frame.
Late in the third, Blakely Sells connected with Orion Cattrell from 18 yards out to end a 13-play drive and make it 10-7. All that hard work was lost when Eagen found Brandt Morrical for a 65-yard TD on the next offensive snap for Conestoga, putting the lead at 17-7 just 24 seconds later. Not to be outdone, Sells followed suit with a 63-yard TD toss to Jacoby Bangert on HIS team's next offensive snap, and it was suddenly 17-13 at the end of three quarters.
Eagen put Conestoga up 24-13 with 5:30 to play when he hit Morrical for another score. Sells answered with a 60-yard TD pass to Cattrell, making it 24-19 with just under five minutes remaining, but that would be it for the scoring on the night.
Falls City committed the only turnover of the game on an interception, and Conestoga held the lead in total yardage, 354-296.
Both teams are now 1-2 on the season. Falls City will look to bounce back at Concordia on Friday, while Conestoga looks to take their momentum into a home game against Yutan this week.
