Gov. Pillen disperses $20M for property tax relief

LINCOLN - Thanks to higher-than-expected casino revenue and the return of unused county funds, Nebraska homeowners are set to see $20 million in property tax relief.
Through the first seven months of 2025, the Nebraska Gaming and Racing Commission reported $19.8 million collected in gaming tax revenue from the state’s four casinos. That money, combined with unspent funds already in the state’s property tax credit cash fund, will be certified and distributed by the Property Tax Administrator under an executive order announced by Gov. Jim Pillen on Tuesday.
The order directs the Property Tax Administrator to base certifications on actual fund balances, rather than estimates. State law requires the Property Tax Credit Cash Fund to be certified by Sept. 15 and disbursed in two parts — by Jan. 31 and April 1. The order also gives the administrator discretion to keep up to $1 million in each of the two property tax relief funds to cover claims and administrative costs.
