Check presentation to be held at football game

SIDNEY -- Sidney High School is the recipient of a T-Mobile Friday Night 5G Lights Program grant.

T-Mobile Communications Manager Lyssa Hansen today confirmed T-Mobile awarded a $5,000 grant to Sidney High School.

"They just got awarded and they're all entered and submitted to win the $1 million prize, and be a finalist for $25,000 too, which we're announcing next Thursday," Hansen said.

She said the program benefits many disciplines, but focuses on football.

"It's really to help the football team and the athletics teams in general to renovate, help them aid in whatever they need towards athletics. The major prize is for the football field upgrades, but that isn't just used by the football team. A lot of times it has a track on it. So the track team has it or things like that. So, we've seen it in doing this last year it really benefited everyone involved in sports. However, it is geared towards football," she said.

Sidney High School Athletics Director Austin Lewis said he worked with Donna Wiedeburg, the District's photographer and social media contributor, to help with the application.

"I asked Donna our social media lady to help me out with it and get it going and put in the registration for it and I just kind of kept putting it out there, talking to the Rep and all the sudden we ended up winning the first prize of $5,000," Lewis said.

Winning the first round enters Sidney into the second round when 25 schools compete for $25,000 next week. The top prize is for $1 million.

Lewis said he was notified of the award late last week.
