#10 Columbus hands #9 Fremont first loss, reclaim F&C Cup
COLUMBUS - In a rivalry renewed with its 98th installment on Friday night, the Columbus Discoverers bullied their way to victory over the Fremont Tigers.
Columbus, ranked 10th in the latest NCN Rankings faced their rival Fremont, ranked 9th in the NCN Rankings and showed why they might deserve a higher ranking.
After Fremont went three and out to start the game, a bad snap on the punt resulted in great field position for Columbus on their opening drive. Michael Voichoskie was the lead back on the first drive, but it was quarterback Connor Williams who scored a 2-yard touchdown to give the Discoverers a 7-0 lead.
On the next drive, Fremont fumbled the football on the first play, giving Columbus the ball back. Carter Eisenmann later scored on the drive to tack on seven more points.
The Discoverers closed out the first half with a touchdown pass from Williams to Rozikov to lead 21-0 at halftime.
Fremont scored their first touchdown in the third quarter on a pass from Will Schleicher to Easton Cyza.
Columbus answered back with another rushing touchdown from Eisenmann.
Fremont's final touchdown came from Ayden Bohaboj to Noah Sagehorn in the fourth quarter.
After a botched PAT and Discoverer punt, the Tigers got the ball back with under two-minutes left.
Omar Rozikov intercepted Bohaboj in the endzone to close out the 28-13 win.
Columbus' Carter Eisenmann dashed for 103 yards on 24 carries, scoring two touchdowns. Michael Voichoskie ran for 68 yards and Connor Williams threw for 85 yards and a touchdown on 8/9 passing.
Fremont's Will Schleicher threw for 102 yards on 16/28 passing for a TD in the loss.
