Search underway for new Niobrara National Scenic River superintendent

VALENTINE, Neb. - The National Park Service is searching for a new superintendent to lead the Niobrara National Scenic River in Valentine. Current superintendent Susan Cook has taken a new job as the superintendent of Homestead National Historical Park near Beatrice. Cook previously worked at the park for nearly 30 years.
“For me, it’s like going home,” Cook said. “I’m excited to reconnect with the staff, as well as listen and learn to see what the new staff is doing. It will be interesting to see their vision and how we can work towards those goals.”
Meanwhile, Cook said several major projects are already in motion at the Niobrara and that she’s working to ensure a seamless transition.
“I’m confident that the staff here, along with the new superintendent, will be able to take these projects over the finish line,” said Cook.
Cook’s final day as the superintendent of the Niobrara National Scenic River will be October 15. She will begin her new job on October 20.
A replacement for the Niobrara post has not yet been announced.
