GORDON, Neb. - A 51-year-old Gordon man has been sentenced to two to three years in prison for possessing drugs with the intent to distribute them.

As part of a plea deal, Charles Garnette pleaded no contest to a felony charge of possessing drugs with the intent to manufacture, distribute, deliver or dispense. In exchange, four other drug charges against him were dropped.

According to court records, investigators executed search warrants at two properties tied to Garnette in March 2022 after receiving intelligence that he was regularly selling methamphetamine and marijuana. One of the homes was just 235 feet from Gordon Elementary School.

Inside, authorities reported finding more than 1.3 grams of methamphetamine, marijuana, pipes, a grinder, a grow light assembly, a scale, and other drug-related items. Authorities said Garnette admitted selling methamphetamine and marijuana to support his addiction.

When Garnette arrived at the Sheridan County Jail, court documents state that staff found 2.6 grams of methamphetamine in one of his pockets. Charles stated that he had forgotten about the bag of illicit drugs.

A warrant was issued for his arrest in April 2023 after he failed to appear in court. He wasn’t taken into custody until June 2025, more than two years later.

Garnette will receive credit for 112 days already served.
