SIDNEY, Ne. -- (October 2, 2025) The Sidney and Greater Area Fund recently announced a donation of $2,500 to the Sidney Volunteer Fire Department Cadet Program.

This contribution will help purchase bunker gear for cadets, ensuring they are properly equipped and prepared as they train to become the next generation of volunteer firefighters.

The Cadet Program provides young community members with hands-on experience, mentorship, and training in fire service. By outfitting cadets with appropriate gear, the program enhances safety and strengthens Sidney’s capacity to build a pipeline of dedicated first responders.

“Investing in our cadets is an investment in the safety and future of Sidney,” said Melissa Norgard, SAGA Fund Chairperson. “These young people are stepping up to serve, and we are honored to support them with the resources they need.”

Sidney’s Volunteer Fire Department has a long history of service and commitment to the community. The cadet program not only trains future firefighters but also instills civic pride, teamwork, and leadership skills in participating youth.

This donation aligns with SAGA’s mission to inspire philanthropic investment and strengthen the Sidney area by supporting projects that enhance quality of life, community vitality, and long-term sustainability.
