GRANT, Neb. - Gordon-Rushville’s girls and North Platte St. Patrick’s boys claimed team titles at the Nebraska School Activities Association Class D-6 District Cross Country Meet in Grant, punching their tickets to the state championships next week in Kearney.

On the girls’ side, Gordon-Rushville took the district crown with 13 points, led by junior Rarity Cournoyer’s runner-up finish in 21 minutes, 19.6 seconds. Teammates Kynsleigh Krebs (sixth, 21:55.1), Brittney Dehning (seventh, 22:02.9) and Ashlyn Dehning (15th, 23:09.0) all finished in the top 15 to secure the win.

Hemingford placed second with 18 points, led by district champion Dakota Horstman, who won the girls’ race in 20:46.2. Her teammate, sophomore Ainslee Woltman, finished fourth in 21:46.0. Perkins County took third with 21 points, behind strong performances from Madison Potts (third, 21:23.2) and Savannah Miller (eighth, 22:06.4).

In the boys’ competition, North Platte St. Patrick’s edged Perkins County by two points to win the district title with 21. The Irish placed three runners in the top 15, including runner-up Colton Ham (16:47.7), senior Dimitri Pettit (fourth, 17:45.1) and senior Logan Robirds (15th, 18:46.3).

Perkins County’s Elijah Goodell dominated the race to earn the individual championship in 16:24.0, while teammate Ethan Swesey took fifth in 17:55.5. Hemingford finished third with 30 points, led by junior Austin Benda, who placed third overall in 17:34.4, and freshman Fletcher Moseman, who was ninth in 18:33.6.

Kimball’s Braxton Miller finished 10th in 18:40.6, helping the Longhorns to a seventh-place team finish.

The top three teams and top 15 individual runners from each race advance to the NSAA Class D State Cross Country Championships, set for Friday, Oct. 24, at the Kearney Country Club.
