SIDNEY, Neb. - A man was charged with reckless driving following a two-vehicle crash that left one person seriously injured Friday evening in Sidney.

According to the Sidney Police Department, officers responded to the crash around 5:47 p.m. near Old Post Road and Outfitter Way. Investigators said a silver SUV struck a blue Jeep from behind while both were traveling westbound, causing the Jeep to roll multiple times and eject its driver.

The driver of the Jeep sustained significant injuries and was transported by Sidney Regional Medical Center ambulance for emergency care. The driver of the SUV declined medical transport but was taken into temporary custody.

Sidney Police Chief Sam Lovato said the driver of the SUV was cooperative and consented to a voluntary blood draw before being charged with reckless driving.

The crash required a full scene reconstruction conducted by the Sidney Police Department, Nebraska State Patrol and Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office. Both vehicles were towed as evidence, and investigators plan to seek search warrants for data extraction from the vehicles’ control modules.

Old Post Road was closed from 11th Avenue to Cabela Drive for several hours and reopened around 8:58 p.m. The names of those involved have not been released by authorities.

The investigation remains ongoing.
