RUSHVILLE, Neb. — Two people are facing charges after a vehicle pursuit Tuesday evening in Sheridan County.

According to the Nebraska State Patrol, a trooper attempted to stop a vehicle with no license plates or lights on Highway 87. Authorities say the driver, identified as 37-year-old Michael Jack of Pine Ridge, South Dakota, initially pulled over but then sped away as the trooper approached.

A short time later, another trooper deployed stop sticks near mile marker 73, successfully bringing the vehicle to a stop. Authorities say two passengers followed commands and stayed with the vehicle, but Jack and another passenger fled on foot.

The passenger, 22-year-old Tyrone Caldwell of Pine Ridge, was found shortly after and taken into custody. The patrol says he had a hatchet and was arrested for obstructing a peace officer and possession of a concealed weapon.

Jack was found about a mile north of where the vehicle stopped and arrested for flight to avoid arrest, obstructing a peace officer, driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to obey a lawful order, no operator’s license, possession of an open alcohol container, and other traffic violations.

Both men were booked into the Sheridan County Jail. The two other passengers were released without charges.
