O'Brien wins fourth defensive player of the week

CHADRON, Neb. – After creating even more game-breaking plays, Chadron State linebacker Logan O'Brien has earned his fourth RMAC Defensive Player of the Week honor out of the 10 weeks it has been handed out in 2025.
O'Brien, the only RMAC player with three weekly honors on the season entering the week and now the first to four, came up with his second pick-six of the season as the Chadron State defense put on another clinic in a 35-10 rivalry win over South Dakota Mines that allowed the Eagles to reclaim the Eagle-Rock Trophy.
The Eagles held the Hardrockers scoreless over the final three quarters to overcome an early 10-7 deficit in the contest, with O'Brien's fourth-quarter 30-yard return serving as an exclamation point. The redshirt senior also forced a fumble, broke up a pass and finished with three solo tackles.
While O'Brien has stolen headlines with his 62 tackles, league-leading 14 tackles for loss and joint-league-leading five sacks and two interceptions returned for touchdowns, the Chadron State defense is putting together a historic season overall.
The Eagles rank third in Division II in passing yards allowed (141.8 per game) 20th in Division II in fewest first downs allowed (141) and 22nd in Division II in opponent third-down conversion percentage (31.0 percent), leading the RMAC in all three categories as well. Chadron State is third in the conference in scoring defense (19.2 points allowed per game) and leads in total defense (280.0 yards allowed per game).
Chadron State is in a two-way tie at the top of the league standings at 7-0 in RMAC play alongside CSU Pueblo. The Eagles, who recently entered the national rankings at No. 22 in the D2Football.com poll, will face a pair of nationally-ranked teams to end the regular season in #11/9 Western Colorado and #6/7 CSU Pueblo.
