Investigation continues into gas fire north of Sidney; one road reopened
SIDNEY - Authorities say the investigation continues into a gas fire north of Sidney, one day after emergency crews responded to the incident at a facility near County Road 28 and U.S. Highway 385.
The fire was first reported around 9:19 a.m. Tuesday east of the Tallgrass plant, where workers had been performing maintenance on a well when it reportedly blew out. The resulting gas fire prompted evacuations for residents near and southeast of the site. Authorities have not released information on the workers’ conditions.
Cheyenne County Sheriff Adam Frerichs said Wednesday evening County Road 111 has been reopened, but County Road 28 remains closed between Highway 385 and County Road 111.
No other information has been released and the incident remains under investigation.
Multiple emergency agencies responded to the scene, including the Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office, Sidney Volunteer Fire Department, Nebraska State Patrol, crew members from Tallgrass and Black Hills Energy and a special response team from Greeley, Colorado.
Authorities emphasized there is no threat to residents within the city of Sidney.
