SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. -  The Western Nebraska Community College women’s basketball team put four in double figures as the Cougars won their third straight with an 82-39 win over the Colorado State University Club team Thursday evening at Cougar Palace.
WNCC, 4-2 on the year, will be off until next Tuesday when they travel to face Casper College.
The Cougars shot 55 percent from the field and buried four treys on the night. Colorado State shot 30 percent from the field and made five 3-pointers.
All 10 players for the Cougars scored. WNCC was led in scoring by Cecila Donyo with 18 points while Veralyn Aviles finished with 17 points. Juseana-Rae Delatori tallied 11 while Ella Chesta-Carty had 10 points.
WNCC controlled the boards 42-22. Donyo led the Cougars with nine rebounds while Chesta-Carty and Charisma Johnson each had six boards.
Colorado State Club had a 5-4 lead early. It was after that the Cougars defense picked up as the Cougars went on an 18-0 run that started with a Chesta-Carty 3-pointer and the run ended with a Johnson steal and bucket. CSU Club finished off the first quarter with a bucket to stop the run. WNCC led after the first 10 minutes 22-7.
The second quarter saw WNCC go on a 7-0 run that was highlighted by a Ruth Lively 3-pointer for a 31-9 lead. WNCC followed that with a 7-0 run with Chesta-Carty knocking down a triple for a 38-10 lead. WNCC led 41-10 at halftime.
The third quarter saw WNCC outscore the Rams 22-13. WNCC held a 52-16 lead before CSU Club made four back-to-back buckets, which was the only time of the game they did to make it 52-20. WNCC responded with a nine points to plead 63-25 after three.
The fourth-quarter was a little closer as WNCC outscored the Rams 19-14 for the 82-39 win.
