Nebraska earns No. 1 overall seed, will host NCAA first and second rounds in Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. — The Nebraska volleyball team was awarded the No. 1 overall seed in the 2025 NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Championship and will host the opening rounds this weekend at John Cook Arena at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
The Huskers (30-0), making their 44th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, will face Long Island (20-8) in the first round Friday at 7 p.m. The match follows the 4:30 p.m. contest between San Diego (25-4) and Kansas State (17-9). Friday’s winners will meet in the second round Saturday at 7 p.m. All matches will be available on the Huskers Radio Network, including Cheyenne County Country (1340 AM 95.7 FM in Sidney)
Nebraska, hosting the first round for the 40th time, enters the postseason after completing its first unbeaten Big Ten season since 2004 and securing its 37th conference title. The Huskers dropped only seven sets all year and carry a nation-leading 60-match home winning streak into tournament play. Nebraska has also won 26 straight NCAA Tournament matches at the Devaney Center, the longest such streak in program history.
If the Huskers advance, they would host an NCAA Regional on Dec. 11-14. National seeds in Nebraska’s region include No. 8 Louisville, No. 9 Texas A&M and No. 16 Kansas. Regional dates and times will be announced after the second round concludes.
Nebraska and Long Island will meet for the second time; the Huskers swept the Sharks in the 2023 first round in Lincoln.
This year’s NCAA Championship is scheduled for Dec. 18-21 at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Mo.
