SIDNEY -- The Cheyenne County commissioners today discussed how to relay documents from shop locations to county offices without an employee driving to Sidney.
The issue on today’s agenda was employee time sheets and the possible purchase of computer tablets. Colleen Terman, office clerk for the Highway Department, said the concern is how to efficiently deliver employee time sheets to her, and then to the county clerk’s office.
She said of the four remote locations – Potter, Lodgepole, Gurley and Dalton – two are sometimes several days late. Some employees photograph their time sheets, and Terman transcribes the data to a spreadsheet. Other locations are bringing the time sheets to the Sidney office when picking up supplies for the outer shops.
Terman and the commissioners discussed options in electronically transmitting time sheets.
“The biggest issue is getting the time sheets. If you do like a laptop or a tablet you would have to have internet at each of those outside shops to do that, and that internet is going to be really expensive. I did some research on tablets, and the tablets are on sale right now for like $249.99, so $250. That’s our government savings. This is the government account. The data plan would be $20 a month. The only thing that you’re not going to see on here is the Excel. All we really need is the Excel Spreadsheet,” Terman said.
Building and Grounds Superintendent Tom Payne said the County has an Office 365 account that, if more employees can be added to the account, a spreadsheet program is included.
The commissioners tabled the discussion for more research.
