Sidney Police chief introduces new officers, sergeant

SIDNEY -- Sidney Police Department has a new sergeant and three new officers.
Chief Sam Lovato made the announcement in Tuesday’s city council meeting.
New officers are Hayden Hofrock, Devin Holbrooks and Faith Gettman. Chief Lovato also introduced Kevin Tretter as the new sergeant. The pinning was conducted by his wife Alicia. He formally introduced the three new officers before the pinning ceremony.
“I would first like to introduce you to three of our newest members of the Sidney Police Department. If you don’t know, it is a very long process to begin hire as a police officer. There are multiple written tests as well as physical fitness tests that include mile and a half runs, sprints, push-ups, jumps, sit-ups, vertical jumps,” Lovato said.
He said the application process also includes interviews and background checks.
“They also had to pass an extensive background investigation, open up their homes for the Department to be able to ask their family members questions. Then once hired, testing doesn’t stop,” he said.
He described the new officers as having the skillsets to make the department grow stronger.
“The three individuals I’m getting ready to introduce have completed every one of the tasks I have asked for them, and more. They will be attending the academy January 4 of next year. I am excited to see what these three individuals bring to the table as I consider each of the a puzzle piece of the Sidney Police Department bringing unique skillsets, personalities and different abilities to the department to make us grow stronger,” Lovato said.
The Sidney Police Department has 10 officers including the three introduced Tuesday. They will be testing for three more in January, and accepting applications for a lieutenant and a sergeant.
