Wayne Community Schools clear after calls of a possible shooter

WAYNE, Neb. — Wayne Community Schools were placed on lockdown after several alarming calls reporting a possible shooter.
The Wayne Police Department said Wayne Public High School received the first call around 10:15 a.m. Minutes later, the elementary school received a similar call.
Police said a third call was made to the department, with the caller claiming they were in the school parking lot and planned to shoot up the school. However, law enforcement was already on scene at the time.
Wayne Police, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, and the Nebraska State Patrol conducted sweeps inside and outside the buildings and found no credible threat.
Law enforcement said there was no confirmation of a legitimate threat and that the calls were similar to other “swatting” hoax calls reported across the state and nation.
At 10:34 a.m., Wayne Community Schools sent an email to parents stating: "Wayne Community Schools is in Lock-down at this time. Please do not come to school, everyone is safe in lock-down. Law enforcement is on the scene. Further announcements to come."
At 12:45 p.m., a second email informed parents the schools were moving into “secure” mode, meaning no one was allowed to enter or exit the buildings.
Law enforcement remained on scene until school administrators decided to release students.
