UPDATE (3/29 3:15 p.m.) - The Nebraska State Patrol says the man shot by police died at a local hospital. Authorities are withholding the man's name pending family notification.

CHADRON, Neb. — The Nebraska State Patrol is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Chadron. The Chadron Police Department confirmed that an officer shot a person in a car while responding to a report of a stolen vehicle. The injured person was taken to the hospital, but police have not released his/her condition.

The shooting happened around 11:00 am on Friday near the Big Bat’s gas station at the intersection of Highways 385 and 20.

Police said there is no danger to the public, but some of the nearby businesses were briefly placed on lockdown shortly after the shooting.
