VALENTINE, Neb. - A nonprofit has been formed to focus on opening a movie theater in Valentine. The previous, independently owned theater closed five years ago.

At Monday night's Valentine Economic Development board meeting, Economic Development Director Mark Hagge announced that the nonprofit Heart City Theater received account approval from the Sandhills Area Foundation.

Board members for the nonprofit have also been chosen, including President Danielle Arganbright, Treasurer Jana Bitner and Secretary Jaime Eggert. The group will hold its next meeting May 1.

“I anticipate our theater discussion to be lengthy,” Hagge said.

The group has looked at a couple of possible locations, according to Hagge, but has not made a decision.

Many people in Valentine travel to Winner, South Dakota or Ainsworth, Nebraska to watch movies on the big screen.
