OGALLALA - The Sidney Red Raider Girls Track team ran away with the B-6 District Track and Field Meet on Tuesday at Ogallala High School. Sidney won the gold medal in eight of the 17 events, and scored 119 points, to easily outdistance runner-up McCook’s 85.5 points, a 33.5-point margin. Gothenburg was right behind in third with 80.5 points followed by Gering in fourth with 58 points.

Senior Karsyn Leeling accounted for three of the first places by sweeping the High Jump, Long Jump, and Triple Jump. Chloe Ahrens garnered a pair of gold medals by winning both the 100 Meter and 300 Meter hurdle events while Talissa Tanquary captured first in the 400 Meter and 800 Meter runs. Ahrens and Tanquary also teamed up with sophomore Katie Dowse and fellow senior Payton Schrotberger to win the 4 x 400 Relay.

McCook won the boys district title by edging Gothenburg by 14 points, 111 to 97. Cozad was third with 87 points and Sidney finished in fourth place with 75 points.

Senior Isak Doty paced the Sidney boys track team with a pair of gold medals in the 100 Meter and 200 Meter Dashes. Doty along with sophomore Lance Holly, junior Owen Gillham, and fellow senior Luke Holly won the 4 x 100 Relay. Sophomore Keian Kaiser gave Sidney their fourth gold medal on the day by winning the High Jump with a personal best leap of 6’2”.

Sidney qualified a record 21 total athletes for next week’s NSAA State Track and Field Championships. Twelve girls and nine boys will compete against the state’s best next Wednesday and Thursday at Omaha Burke High School in Omaha.
