VALENTINE, Neb. - Hundreds of bicyclists are hoping for good weather as they travel across Nebraska this week. Bicycle Ride Across Nebraska starts Saturday in Valentine and ends Friday in Louisville.

On Saturday night the Valentine football practice field was transformed into a campsite with nearly 500 cyclists setting up tents.

Three Reckmeyer brothers, two from Nebraska and one from Texas, are taking part in the week-long event that has riders camping out at night and pedaling throughout the day.

“I like to travel a lot. This is the type of travel I like to do,” Dan Reckmeyer said.

“It’s nice enjoying Nebraska and seeing the countryside,” Drew Reckmeyer said

“Everybody out here is interested in maintaining good health and fitness. I was in the medical profession, so that’s something that’s important to me,” Matt Reckmeyer said.

The bikers will travel across Nebraska with stops in towns like Bassett, Burwell and Wahoo. The event ends in Louisville on Friday.

“You’ll see people from all over the country here,” Dan said.

Hundreds of people who are hoping for sunny skies and easy rides this week while making memories with new and old friends.

“My goal is to finish in good health, and pray for good weather,” Matt said.

“And it’s fun to do it together,” Drew said.

A fun, family affair combined with plenty of fitness.
