VALENTINE, Neb. -- Valentine residents suffered $41,000 worth of damages during a May 29 storm, according to Cherry County Emergency Manager Jessica Coyle. Coyle said she submitted the dollar amount to the National Emergency Management Agency, who will then report it to FEMA.

“They’re going to see if President [Joe] Biden will extend the disaster declaration he issued in Nebraska earlier this year,” Coyle said.

Strong winds caused the building and tree damage in Valentine. Coyle said the dollar amount also figures in overtime by power crews restoring electricity.

During the storm, a tornado also touched down north of Whitman, but Coyle said she didn’t receive any damage reports.
