RUSHVILLE, Neb. - A man is injured after being hit by lightning north of Rushville, Nebraska on Monday. Sheridan County Sheriff Jeff Brewer said that the man was sitting in a vehicle when he was struck by lightning.

“He had pulled alongside the road because the lightning was so severe, but then he ended up being hit by it,” Brewer said.

The lightning strike happened between Rushville and Whiteclay. The man was airlifted to a larger hospital because of his injuries.

“That’s the first lightning strike injury I’ve investigated in my 40 years in law enforcement, so it’s pretty unusual,” Brewer said.
