VALENTINE, Neb. - New University of Nebraska President Dr. Jeff Gold is touring the state this week, with a visit to Valentine on Thursday. Gold plans to meet with community leaders at Bolo Beer Co. at 5:30 p.m.

“This trip is dedicated to listening and learning from Nebraskans in every corner of our state about how we can work together to create a strong future,” Dr. Gold said.

Gold began his five-day tour Monday in Nebraska City and Falls City. The tour ends Friday in Scottsbluff.

“The University of Nebraska is thriving. We may not win every football game or we may not achieve every last award and recognition, but let me tell you compared to what is going on with many of our peers in the Big 10 – many of the other large public systems – we are economically stable, and we are at an academic level of incredibly high respect and admiration,” Gold told the crowd in Nebraska City.

Gold took on the presidential role July 1. He was previously the chancellor of the University of Nebraska Medical Center and vice president of the University of Nebraska system. Prior to coming to Nebraska, Gold was the chancellor of the University of Toledo’s academic and clinical health sciences.

“I’m excited to travel across our 500-mile campus to learn more about the University of Nebraska’s statewide impact and hear from community members about our opportunities to build upon our long history, strengthen our partnerships, and collectively continue to change lives, build the workforce and keep Nebraska competitive and growing,” Gold said.
