Updated story-August 21 at 3:50 p.m.
GORDON, Neb. - A grass fire northeast of Gordon, Nebraska is now contained. Gordon Fire Chief Rich Haller said that a downed power line sparked the fire north of McGinley Ranch, an 80,000-acre property once owned by Ted Turner and now managed by his nonprofit dedicated to ecosystem conservation and bison ranching.
The fire, which Haller said started at The Camp Place on the ranch, burned less than 100 acres and only damaged grass.

"It was really hot for the firefighters, especially with the strong winds," Haller said.
Temperatures in Gordon reached the mid-90s on Wednesday, adding to the challenge.
Gordon, Rushville and Merriman firefighters all responded to the fire, with Merriman firefighters remaining on scene to watch for any flare-ups.
