Air tankers battle 915-acre fire near Crawford
CRAWFORD, Neb. - Federal, state, and local crews are working to contain the 915-acre Bronco Fire burning 11 miles northwest of Crawford, according to the Crawford Volunteer Fire Department. Authorities say lightning sparked the fire on private property Wednesday, but it’s now spread onto the Oglala National Grassland.
“The fire is burning in rough terrain. Dozer lines are partially in place; however, most areas are only accessible by foot,” the Crawford Volunteer Fire Department said on Facebook.
More than 100 people, along with multiple air resources, are battling the fire.
Officials are urging the public to avoid nearby roads to ensure both their safety and that of the firefighters. Only essential travel is permitted on Milo Road, Sand Creek Road, and Cottonwood Road.
