VALENTINE, Neb. – A wildfire near Valentine that led to temporary evacuations on Oct. 3 scorched 534 acres, according to Cherry County Emergency Manager Jessica Coyle. During a Board of Commissioners meeting on Tuesday, Coyle detailed the efforts to extinguish the Jackson Fire, which included assistance from seven fire departments, a single-engine air tanker (SEAT), and local ranch rigs.

As previously reported by News Channel Nebraska, the fire broke out between Valentine and Crookston, north of Highway 20. While firefighters quickly brought the fire under control, the Sheriff’s Office evacuated some nearby residents as a precaution.
