Two Winner men sentenced to federal prison for drive-by shooting
WINNER, S.D. - Two men from Winner, South Dakota, have been sentenced to federal prison for their roles in a drive-by shooting. Nineteen-year-old Arthur Black Bull received a 10-year prison sentence with three years of supervised release, while 22-year-old Therryn Black Horse was sentenced to five years in prison, also followed by three years of supervised release.
The incident occurred in the early morning of Apr. 13, 2023. Black Horse, who had a prior conflict with the victim, drove by the victim's residence in Winner Tribal Housing with Black Bull as a passenger. Black Bull then fired several rounds from a 9mm pistol at the residence, striking the exterior of the home. The victim and his family were inside at the time but were unharmed.
Shell casings from the scene were later matched to a pistol seized during a traffic stop in May 2023, which was traced back to Black Bull. Both men were indicted by a federal grand jury in February 2024 and pleaded guilty in August.
