OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Ryan Kalkbrenner scored 23 points as Creighton beat Villanova 86-79 on Saturday night.

Kalkbrenner had five rebounds for the Bluejays (8-5, 1-1 Big East Conference). Neal Jamiya added 20 points while going 7 of 11 (6 for 7 from 3-point range) while they also had six assists. Steven Ashworth shot 6 for 11 (3 for 5 from 3-point range) and 5 of 5 from the free-throw line to finish with 20 points, while adding 11 assists.

The Wildcats (8-5, 1-1) were led in scoring by Eric Dixon, who finished with 27 points. Wooga Poplar added 19 points and 10 rebounds for Villanova. Jhamir Brickus finished with 16 points and four assists. The loss ended a five-game winning streak for the Wildcats.

Creighton took the lead with 16:12 to go in the first half and did not relinquish it. The score was 40-38 at halftime, with Kalkbrenner racking up 10 points. Creighton turned a three-point second-half lead into a 10-point advantage with a 7-0 run to make it a 56-46 lead with 14:40 left in the half. Neal scored 14 second-half points in the victory.

Sutton's 24 lead Omaha past Cal Poly 86-82

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Marquel Sutton scored 24 points as Omaha beat Cal Poly 86-82 on Saturday night.

Sutton added nine rebounds for the Mavericks (5-9). Tony Osburn scored 16 points while going 4 of 8 from the floor, including 4 for 7 from 3-point range, and 4 for 6 from the free-throw line. Kamryn Thomas shot 5 for 11 (1 for 5 from 3-point range) and 3 of 4 from the free-throw line to finish with 14 points.

The Mustangs (6-8) were led by Jarred Hyder, who posted 22 points. Cal Poly also got 20 points from Owen Koonce. Peter Bandelj also put up 10 points and four assists.

Frida Formann, Lior Garzon, Jade Masogayo rally Colorado women past No. 14 West Virginia 65-60

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — Frida Formann made four 3-pointers and scored 22, Jade Masogayo added 18 points and Lior Garzon scored 12 of her 14 in a pivotal fourth quarter as Colorado rallied to beat No. 14 West Virginia 65-60 on Saturday night in a Big 12 Conference opener.

The Buffaloes (10-2) trailed by 11 heading to the final quarter before outscoring the Mountaineers 25-9.

Formann made 8 of 14 shots for Colorado, which shot 81.8% in the final 10 minutes (9 of 11). Masogayo buried 9 of 10 shots and added seven rebounds.

Jordan Harrison led the Mountaineers (10-2) with 18 points and five assists. Ja'Naiya Quinerly scored 15.

West Virginia got one basket from six different players in taking a 16-9 lead after one quarter. Formann had eight points in the second quarter to get Colorado within 28-25 at halftime. Harrison scored 10 of West Virginia's 12 points in the quarter.

The Buffaloes pulled within a point to begin the third period on a layup by Masogayo, but West Virginia stiffened and led 41-30 with a quarter to go.

Masogayo had a layup and Garzon made two straight baskets to pull Colorado within 51-46 with 6:51 remaining. Grace Oliver buried a 3-pointer, Masogayo followed with three straight baskets and Formann made two free throws to cap an 11-0 run and Colorado led 62-55 with 36 seconds left.

West Virginia is idle until it hosts UCF on New Year's Day in a conference matchup. Colorado is also idle until Jan. 1 when it travels to play No. 12 TCU in Big 12 action.

Colorado State edges Nevada 66-64 in Mountain West opener

RENO, Nev. (AP) — Nique Clifford had 16 points and his free throws with four seconds left sealed Colorado State's 66-64 win over Nevada in the Mountain West Conference opener on Saturday night.

Clifford also had 12 rebounds for the Rams (7-5). Kyan Evans shot 5 of 8 from the field, including 3 for 5 from 3-point range, and went 3 for 3 from the line to add 16 points. Rashaan Mbemba shot 4 of 7 from the field and 2 for 4 from the line to finish with 10 points.

Nick Davidson led the Wolf Pack (8-4) in scoring, finishing with 13 points. Kobe Sanders added 13 points and six assists for Nevada. Tre Coleman had 12 points.

Colorado State went into halftime ahead of Nevada 33-30. Clifford scored 11 points in the half. Colorado State took the lead for good with 2:12 remaining in the second half on a layup from Mbemba to make it a 58-57 game.

Both teams next play Saturday. Colorado State hosts New Mexico and Nevada plays Wyoming on the road.

Wisne scores 22 in Northern Colorado's 82-75 win over Denver

DENVER (AP) — Brock Wisne scored 22 points as Northern Colorado beat Denver 82-75 on Saturday night.

Wisne added five rebounds for the Bears (8-5). Langston Reynolds scored 21 points and added five assists. Isaiah Hawthorne had 16 points and shot 6 for 10, including 2 for 3 from beyond the arc.

Nicholas Shogbonyo finished with 21 points for the Pioneers (6-9). Josh Lee added 14 points for Denver. Sebastian Akins also had 12 points.

Assane Diop scores 15 points and Colorado breezes past Bellarmine 79-55

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — Assane Diop scored 15 points and Colorado built a 29-point halftime lead before cruising past Bellarmine 79-55 on Saturday for its fourth straight win.

Bellarmine led 6-4 three minutes into the game, but Colorado allowed just 10 points the rest of the half. Diop scored seven points in a 15-0 run that gave the Buffaloes a 29-10 lead with about 5 minutes left and they took a 45-16 lead at halftime.

Bellarmine made 1 of 14 3-pointers and was 5 for 27 overall in the first half for 18.5%. Colorado shot 52%, led by Diop who made 6 of 8 and scored 13 points.

Colorado cooled off to 42% in the second half and was outscored 39-34. Bellarmine shot 61.5% in the second half.

Colorado led 60-23 before the Lions chipped away with five 3-pointers in their next six made shots but it only got them within 70-41 with 7 minutes remaining.

RJ Smith scored 11 points and Julian Hammond III had 10 points for Colorado (9-2), which is 8-0 at home.

Dezmond McKinney scored 12 points for Bellarmine (3-10).

Colorado makes its Big 12 debut on Dec. 30 with a home game against Iowa State.
