VALENTINE, Neb. - Cherry County will soon have a new Clerk of the District Court. On Tuesday, commissioners appointed Jessica Hanson to the position.

Hanson, who currently works at Johnson Law Office in Valentine, was one of two people who interviewed for the position.

“I would like to further my career, and see what I can do,” Hanson told commissioners.

The commissioners noted that Hanson’s experience set her apart during the selection process.

“I’m excited for the career growth,” said Hanson. “I’ve been involved in the justice system for years, with my mom also being in this profession.”

Hanson replaces Lorana Eggert, who announced her resignation effective Jan. 17. Since the role is an elected position, Hanson will complete the remainder of Eggert's term and will need to run for election to retain the position beyond that.
