A child in north-central Nebraska has died from influenza, according to the North Central District Health Department (NCDHD). This marks one of three pediatric flu deaths already reported statewide during the 2024-25 flu season.
“NCDHD shares our deepest condolences with the families impacted,” said NCDHD Director Heidi Kuklis.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that, so far this season, there have been approximately 3.1 million flu cases nationwide, resulting in 37,000 hospitalizations and 1,500 deaths.
To help protect against the flu, the CDC recommends:
- Getting a flu shot.
- Washing hands frequently.
- Avoiding close contact with sick individuals.
- Staying home when feeling unwell.
- Covering your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing.
- Maintaining healthy habits like adequate rest, a balanced diet, and staying hydrated.
Flu shots are available at the NCDHD and your local clinic, along with NCDHD clinics.
