KEARNEY, Neb. -- The Grand Island Central Catholic girls basketball team scored a season-high in points and downed their rival Kearney Catholic 60-40 on Friday night.

The Stars (3-5) scored the first points of the game on a three-point play but never led again. The Crusaders (5-5) followed with a 7-0 run and remained in control for the rest of the game. Late in the second quarter, Kearney Catholic trimmed their deficit to four points but GICC responded with a five-point spurt to close the have comfortably. The Crusaders started the second half on an 8-0 run and put the game away.

GICC pulled away with efficient shooting. They are only shooting 25% from three-point range on the season but drilled eight threes on Friday night, their second-highest total of the season. The Crusaders were strong on defense as well. They forced 19 turnovers and limited the Stars to 10 points in each quarter.
