VALENTINE, Neb. - Cherry County commissioners shortened their meeting Tuesday to allow employees time to honor the life of Dave Leonard, the county’s late weed supervisor. Leonard’s funeral service was held at Valentine Presbyterian Church.

Leonard, remembered for his deep commitment to the community, leaves behind his wife and four children. According to his online obituary, he dedicated more than 30 years to the Old West Days Committee, volunteered extensively and worked for with the Cherry County Ag Society, and made history as the first male auxiliary president of the Nebraska Association of Fair Managers. He was also actively involved with the local church youth group, LOGOS.

While county commissioners will soon begin the search for Leonard’s successor,  commissioners said they wanted to spend Tuesday honoring his legacy and the impact he had on Cherry County.
