GORDON, Neb. - Dog owners in Gordon may soon have a dedicated space for their pets to play and socialize. On Thursday night, the Gordon City Council voted to form a committee to explore potential locations, design plans, cost estimates, and maintenance strategies for a future dog park.
During the meeting, council members discussed possible locations, including near the Sheridan County Fairgrounds and Hamilton Park along Highway 20.
The initiative aligns with a growing nationwide trend. According to the Trust for Public Land, off-leash dog parks are the fastest-growing segment of park development in the U.S., with the number of dedicated spaces increasing by more than 42% from 2009 to 2020, surpassing 800 parks nationwide.
