SIDNEY --  The Cheyenne County Courtroom was packed with friends and family supporting Amber Horn taking the office of Cheyenne County Attorney.

Amber Horn had been serving as the Chief Deputy County Attorney. When County Attorney Paul Schaub announced his resignation in December 2024, she was appointed as Interim County Attorney.

Friday morning, she was sworn into office as the new Cheyenne County Attorney with the Hon. Judge Derek Weimer presiding.

At the beginning of the preceding, Judge Weimer, talked about the importance of ceremonies, especially accepting an oath of office.

"It has been one of my great privileges in this position to be able to swear people in to office. Oftentimes its with law enforcement as new deputies are coming on, new police officers are coming in to their work," Judge Weimer said Friday.

After the swearing-in, Horn said her appointment as Cheyenne County Attorney fulfills a dream.

"Eventually, I expected to get here. It happened a little faster than I intended. But, I'm excited. I'm humbled, I'm honored by this opportunity to serve the community," Horn said.

She said the role of county attorney is very important to the community.

"I think it's a very important position, and I look forward to serving my community," she said.

Horn is a graduate of Leyton High School, earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Nebraska-Omaha and her law degree from the Creighton University School of Law.

She said she was drawn to practicing law because she likes problem-solving, she's analytical and she likes history and the laws.

She started working with the Cheyenne County Attorney's Office in 2019.

The Cheyenne County Attorney's office has a staff of seven, with one vacancy.
