SIDNEY – The Lady Raiders left no doubt about the outcome of the fourth meeting between Sidney and Gering on Saturday in the B4 District Final at the Cabela’s Athletic Facility. Sidney trailed only once in the game when Gering sophomore Kamry Lopez hit a three-point shot to put the Bulldogs up 7-5 with 4:14 to go in the first quarter. Gering’s lead was short-lived as Kayla Westby drained a three pointer a minute later to spark a 20-2 Sidney run to finish the quarter leading 22-7.

Sidney’s tenacious defense began to take its toll, as the Lady Raiders held Gering to just a pair of free throws in the second period. Sidney junior Kierra Schrader poured in 10 points of her game-high 14 points in the period to spur the Lady Raider to a 39-9 lead heading into intermission.

An exasperated Gering offense could only muster four third quarter points while Sidney continued to find the hoop. A Kierra Schrader free throw with 2:03 remaining in the period gave the Lady Raiders a 51-11advantage, initiating the 40-point running clock. The rest of the game sailed by as Sidney won the game 60-18.

Sidney was led by Kierra Schrader with 14 points. Kayla Westby and Ryan Dillehay added 10 points apiece.

Sidney (22-4) will enter the NSAA Girls State Championships as the number five seed and will face the number four seed Bennington (21-4) at Pinnacle Bank Arena, Thursday, March 6th at 3:15 p.m. CT/2:15 p.m. MT on Cheyenne County Country (1340 AM, 95.7 FM), newschannelnebraska.com and the free NCN app.
