Smith Falls State Park reopens after ice jam

Smith Falls State Park is once again open to visitors after an ice jam forced its closure in February.

VALENTINE, Neb. - Smith Falls State Park is once again open to visitors after an ice jam forced its closure in February. The park is home to Nebraska’s tallest waterfall at 63 feet and is located along the Niobrara River, a designated National Scenic River.

According to Nebraska Game and Parks, the ice jam pushed into the campground and blocked roads, temporarily closing access to the park. The footbridge leading to the falls was also shut down but has since reopened.
