VALENTINE, Neb. - The Powder Horn Area boat ramp at Merritt Reservoir State Recreation Area is closed until further notice after sustaining damage over the winter, according to Nebraska Game and Parks. Severe ice heaving caused the lower portion of the ramp to break off and sink, making it unsafe for use.

Boaters can still access the reservoir through other locations, including the main boat ramp, which remains open. Additional ramps at Cedar Bay, Beed’s Landing, and Snake will open as ice recedes and docks are installed this spring.
