Bynes Wins Field AOTY, Four Earn All-RMAC

CHADRON, Neb. – Chayton Bynes added another honor to his trophy case when the sophomore was named the RMAC Men's Indoor Co-Field Athlete of the Year by the league office on Tuesday.
In addition to Bynes's major award win, four Chadron State Eagles earned All-RMAC recognition based on their performances at last month's RMAC Indoor Championships.
Christopher Jennings earned First Team All-RMAC honors for finishing on the podium of the weight throw, while Creighton Trembly (fourth, 60-meter hurdles), Ryan Clapper (fifth, 200-meter dash) and Keaton Mills (sixth, high jump) all earned Second Team All-RMAC recognition.
Bynes earns a share of an RMAC major award for the second consecutive indoor season, being named Co-Field Athlete of the Year just a year after being named the conference's Co-Freshman of the Year in 2023-24.
The Chadron, Nebraska native earned All-American honors in the triple jump by placing fifth at the NCAA National Indoor Championships. During the regular season, Bynes recorded a triple jump of 15.71 meters, or 51 feet, 6.5 inches, which was the longest triple jump in the RMAC this season and the second-longest in Division II.
Beyond the triple jump, Bynes had the third-farthest long jump in the conference this season and ranked within the league's top 20 in both the high jump and 60-meter dash. He also qualified for the NCAA National Championships in the long jump, placing 13th and missing out on All-American honors by one place.
Bynes shared the RMAC Field Athlete of the Year honors with UCCS's Richard Safoh, who won the long jump at the RMAC Championships and finished seventh at nationals in that event. Bynes did not compete at the RMAC Championships.
Adams State's Romain Legendre, who set Division II records while winning national championships in both the 3,000 and 5,000 meters, won the league's Track Athlete of the Year honors. ASU's Harrison Boyd was named the league's Freshman of the Year. Colorado School of Mines's Matt Sparks was named the RMAC Coach of the Year for both the men and women.
The RMAC awards are selected and voted on by the league's 13 men's indoor track & field head coaches. Coaches are not permitted to vote for their players.
The All-RMAC Teams are based on results at the RMAC Championships, with first, second and third-place finishers named First Team All-RMAC and fourth, fifth, and sixth-place finishers earning Second Team All-RMAC recognition. Additionally, members of the first-place relay teams earned First Team All-RMAC honors, while second-place relay teams received Second Team All-RMAC recognition.
