SIDNEY, Neb. – Three individuals were arrested following a violent disturbance involving a baseball bat and a reported knife at the Cheyenne Villa apartment complex on Ash Street Saturday afternoon, according to the Sidney Police Department.

Officers were dispatched to the scene around 2:03 p.m. on March 29 after receiving reports of an active disturbance involving a male armed with a baseball bat and another subject with a knife. Upon arrival, officers encountered a male subject, Matthew C.  Mortensen, still armed with a bat, who complied with commands to drop it. He was taken into custody without incident. No knife was found to be used.

During the investigation, a female subject, Daija M. Martinez, became combative and was also taken into custody.

Police said an adult female victim had been struck with the baseball bat, sustaining injuries that were treated on scene by Sidney Regional Medical Center EMS.

A third male individual, Isaac P. Cisneros, was arrested for disturbing the peace and obstructing a peace officer after interfering with officers during the investigation.

All three were transported to the Cheyenne County Jail in Sidney, and two were evaluated by EMS for injuries before being booked.

The Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office assisted Sidney police at the scene. The use of take-home patrol vehicles allowed additional Sidney officers to respond quickly and help contain the situation.

The incident remains under investigation.
