Probation revocations send two men to prison in Gage County cases

BEATRICE – Probation has been revoked for a 38-year-old Lincoln man in a Gage County case…who has been in custody in Lincoln.
Brandyn Tomes initially was sentenced in Gage County District Court to serve a three-year probation term for second-degree criminal trespass and possession of a controlled substance. Tomes was resentenced to a two-year prison term on the drug count and three months on the trespass conviction…served at the same time. No post-release supervision was ordered.
In October of 2021, Tomes was arrested by Beatrice Police after being found inside the vacant and condemned, former Dempster Manufacturing building. Officers had responded to the scene and saw two people running from the north side of the property. They arrested a male suspect but had to chase down a female suspect, arresting her.
The male, Tomes, had a backpack with him containing items taken from the building…and had a small baggie of methamphetamine with him. The suspects had parked along the south side of the property, entering it through a hole in the fence.
In a separate case, Wednesday....Judge Schreiner revoked the post-release supervision term of a man who will now serve the rest of that supervision in state prison.
Chance Corliss was re-sentenced Wednesday to 528 days in prison with 81 days credit off that term for time served. The 39-year-old Corliss, of Kearney, was previously sentenced for possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person in December of 2022… to serve three to four years in prison followed by two years of post-release supervision.
Corliss was initially charged after he was arrested by Beatrice Police in late August of 2019….after an officer noticed a vehicle parked in Chautauqua Park in during closed hours between midnight and six a.m.
The officer made contact with Corliss and a female passenger and recovered a pair of brass knuckles from the car. A records check showed Corliss was a convicted felon…barred from possession of weapons.
