OGLALA, S.D. - A 34-year-old Oglala man has been sentenced to more than 17 years in federal prison for receiving child pornography. Johnathan Morrison used social media to solicit a 10-year-old girl to engage in sexually explicit conduct in August 2023. The abuse came to light when an adult learned what was happening and reported it to the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety. Morrison was arrested, and his smartphone was seized as evidence.

A search of the device revealed Morrison had downloaded and used several social media apps—including Kik, Telegram, and Snapchat—to communicate with minors. Through these platforms, he solicited, sent, and received explicit images and videos, including content involving prepubescent girls.

Further investigation showed Morrison expressed an interest in girls between the ages of 10 and 14. Authorities also discovered he had made sexual advances toward his girlfriend’s teenage daughter and had secretly taken more than 130 photos of her on his phone.

A federal grand jury indicted Morrison in February 2024. He pleaded guilty on January 8, 2025.
