Troopers report spike in high-speed drivers across Nebraska in 2025

Nebraska State Troopers are reporting an alarming trend of high speeds on Nebraska roadways to start 2025. During the first 100 days of the year, troopers stopped over 300 drivers for triple-digit speeds.
“Last year, the first 100 days of year were the fastest our troopers had seen in at least a decade. This year, speeds have been even higher,” said Colonel John Bolduc, Superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol. “Excessive speeding creates additional risk for everyone on the road. All drivers should follow posted speed limits to do their part to help all travelers stay safe.”
So far in 2025, troopers have stopped 318 drivers for speeding at over 100 MPH and 1,469 for speeding at 90 MPH or higher. At 100 miles per hour, it takes an average vehicle the distance of two football fields to come to a stop.
Year (First 100 Days) | 90+ MPH Citations | 100+ MPH Citations |
2025 | 1,469 | 318 |
2024 | 1,385 | 289 |
2023 | 1,224 | 251 |
2022 | 1,092 | 218 |
2021 | 941 | 209 |
The high-speed totals in 2025 represent a 52% increase in 100 MPH citations compared to the average of the previous ten years.
“As we leave the winter weather in the rearview, it’s important for everyone to maintain safe roadways across Nebraska,” said Colonel Bolduc. “While traffic increases in the spring and summer months, our troopers will continue patrolling to keep Nebraska roads safe for all.”
