Leeling earns runner-up finish in high jump at Michael Johnson Invitational

WACO, Texas – Nebraska track and field athlete Karsyn Leeling cleared a season-best 1.85 meters (6 feet, ¾ inch) to place second in the women’s high jump at the Michael Johnson Invitational on Saturday.
Leeling, a Sidney High School graduate, finished just behind teammate Jenna Rogers, who won the event with a jump of 1.88 meters (6-2), the third-highest mark in the country this season. Rogers’ performance also qualified her for the U.S. Olympic Trials.
Leeling helped lead a strong performance for the Huskers in the event, with Brooklyn Miller and Ela Velepec tying for third at 1.76 meters (5-9 ¼) and Riley Masten placing sixth with a mark of 1.68 meters (5-6). Rebecca Pecora finished 16th, clearing 1.58 meters (5-2 ¼).
The event was part of a successful weekend for the Nebraska track and field program, which wrapped up competition Saturday at Baylor University. Other event winners included Tyus Wilson in the men’s high jump (2.25m, 7-4 ½) and Kellyn Kortemeyer in the women’s shot put (16.89m, 55-5), which ranks ninth in program history.
The Huskers now turn their attention to the Drake Relays, scheduled for April 23–26 in Des Moines, Iowa.
